For GPs: Referring your patient for a Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy should be undertaken within 30 days of receiving a positive FOBT result

Make sure you note clearly on your referral that your patient has a positive FOBT result

When to refer

If your patient has recently returned a positive FOBT test, they will require a colonoscopy in order to investigate the cause of the blood in their stool. Colonoscopy should be done within 30 days of receiving a positive result.

Please encourage your patient to organise prompt review and progression to procedure.

How to refer

POSiTiVE FOBT supports independent Gastroenterologists working in Private and Public across Metro Melbourne, Gippsland and the Bass Coast.

You can send a referral to POSiTiVE FOBT, who will promptly contact your patient to arrange an early appointment at a convenient time and location that best suits their needs. Open Access Endoscopy is available for suitable patients.

Referrals can be submitted through your medical software, via fax at 03 9102 9774, or sent by email to admin@positivefobt.com.au.

If your patient is outside of Melbourne, or you have a regular Gastroenterologist you refer to, send your referral as you normally would.
